DAKAR 2010: APRILIA GETS 3rd IN OVERALL RANKING WITH RXV 4.5
Friday, 09 October 2009 15:31
A dream came true
The last special of the Dakar was only a fast-paced formality: Chaleco López and Aprilia rising on the third step of the podium. A dream came true for the rider and all the Team Giofil Aprilia Racing. To complete this incredible success, Ceci and Zanotti are 1st and 2nd in the 450 class in their first participation on the rally. BUENOS AIRES – Last night, tension was so high that López couldn´t even sleep, and the mechanics controlled the Aprilia RXV 4.5 in the detail. As we know, the Dakar might reserve surprises on the last stage, but not this time. Francisco López is absolute 3rd in the Dakar rally, his best result ever, with a new bike and a new team that participated in the race for its very first time. It was not an easy way, the South American Dakar has been incredible, exhausting for men and means, but the strength and stubbornness of the Team Giofil Aprilia Racing has accomplished an incredible and unexpected result.
The Aprilia RXV 4.5 has proved being extremely competitive and reliable and after the fuel problems for the first two stages and the breaking of the chain in the seventh stage, but the strong Chilean rider fought for the victory. For the last special of this 32nd Dakar, López and the team agreed not to take any risk: in a fast stage of 202 km the threat of ruining mousse and tires are high. It was though decided that it was better a 3rd safe place than a possible 2nd full of unknowns. Perhaps no bike in the Dakar´s history arrived so far in its first participation and "Chaleco" was the perfect interpreter of Aprilia´s potential. A successful completed by the great race of the two Italian riders of the Team Giofil, Paolo Ceci and Alex Zanotti, both for their first Dakar. But not enough, the man from Modena and San Marino´s rider are respectively 1st and 2nd in the 450 class, and 14th and 18th in the overall standings, and they are now ready to celebrate their great success with Aprilia in Buenos Aires. The only regret is for Gerard Farrés: the strong Spanish rider could have achieved an excellent team work, but a technical problem that cannot be resolved in terrain didn´t allowed him to continue his valuable work of “water carrier” for López. However, Farrés supported “Chaleco” during the whole race. Tomorrow at La Rural, Buenos Aires, the final parade and the podium of this unforgettable Dakar for Aprilia and the Team Giofil will be carried out. But this finish line is not the end of the race; it is only a new beginning for Aprilia in rally raid.
Francisco Lopez: “It is amazing, I never thought of arriving so high. This is a dream come true, a dreamed about it for years. During the first stages it seemed to be difficult, but then things went better and better. Without the fuel and chain problems who know what would have happened, but the Dakar is a long and difficult race and these are things that must be foreseen. It is impossible to pass two weeks without the slightest problem. My Aprilia was exceptional and all the team did a great job to put myself in the best conditions. For a new bike and a team that is just starting, I could not ask for more. The most difficult time of this Dakar was the seventh stage, when I broke the chain, the most beautiful, besides being on the podium, was when I won the stage in Chile, in my country. Now is all about working immediately to continue the development of the bike and be more competitive, in order to go out for a victory in the next Dakar.”

Aprilia vs Ducati
Wednesday, 09 September 2009 14:55
Once again the motorcycling press has lined up an Aprilia model to duke it out with a contender from Ducati as Sport Rider conducted a Comparison Test of the Dorsoduro and the Hypermotard titled, "Urban Brawlers".
At first this may seem like an unfair comparison when you look at the specs. the Ducati has 1080cc and a price tag of $11,995 while Aprilia comes to the test with only 749cc and an MSRP of $9,599.
But I guess it all equaled out in the end as the Aprilia Dorsoduro BEATS the Ducati!
"The more we rode the Aprilia, the more we were reluctant to give up the keys. It may not match the Ducati on paper, but the real world is an entirely different story. The engine is a winner, the brakes are powerful...and the mirrors are actually useful. When all else is equal, it's the details that separate the winners from the losers, and when you factor in one final detail - the price - we fail to see how one can go wrong with the Dorsoduro in the urban-motard market."Sport Rider, Sept 2009
"Once I got the hang of things, tearing up the twisty stuff and bombing through traffic became that more enjoyable. But the longer I rode these two, the more I gravitated towards the Aprilia. Factor in the price tag, and it's a no-brainer for me."Troy Siahaan, Associate Editor
Winner: aprilia Dorsoduro

Aprilia RSV4 tested by "Superbike Magazine":
"In my view sports bikes don't come much more refined than the RSV4. That sounds a bit pompous but I've reluctantly got off it now thinking it is essence of sportsbike. After spending this week thrashing about road and track, it's just jumped to the top of my 'best production bike I've ever ridden' list. Truly.
It's exciting, agile, accurate, fast, fascinating to look at and special. What more could you want from a sportsbike? This is just my view but, well, I've been riding a lot of bikes for a long time now so I do have a half-decent point of view (I hope!).
I've read and heard a couple of questions about its size not being enough for bigger riders but I don't agree - and at six foot I'm well qualified. It's no different to a 600, say the R6 or CBR6 - both of which I've spent thousands of miles on. In fact that's a good pointer. The RSV4 is like a 600cc sportsbike with a litre bike engine, which has been a well-used cliche in the past but has never been truer than with this bike.
On track it was brilliant and I can't imagine a better production bike. It made Cadwell shrink, like a full-spec superbike does and demands a bit of brain re-calibration. For instance I've never flicked through the Gooseneck as quick. The mixture of fast and flowing, plus tight and nadgery bends showed the Aprilia chassis was easily better than the 1198S and R1 we tested it alongside."

Today, motorcycle enthusiasts who appreciate authenticity and classic good looks but don’t want to sacrifice riding comfort and advanced technology will find the V7 Classic an excellent choice for everyday, anytime adventures – and a style statement that sets you apart in any crowd.
And in other news
The all new Moto Guzzi Stelvio 1200 4v has arrived at Moto-Nexus.Whether you are a hardcore, adventure touring, long-miler or a day to day commuter, the Stelvio will deliver as only this Italian thoroughbred can. With its sure footed stance, legendary Moto Guzzi power delivery and ample carrying capacity, the Stelvio is the latest generation of two wheeled SUV’s that does it all.
STELVIO 1200 4V: the pleasure of riding at the top. TheStelvio Pass is a winding path that, like a snake, coils up by the shadow of the Ortles massif, with 84 hairpin bends, at an altitude of 2758 meters between Valtellina and Venosta Valley. For riders, this asphalt stretch, built in 1855, is a legendary route that combines the difficulty of a rugged track with incredible natural beauty, resulting in a riding experience of extraordinary intensity.
For Moto Guzzi, it is a historical test stretch, where the benefits of chassis dynamics, resistance, engine response and suspension absorbing capacity can be tested. A frequent test bench where Mandello's new mount, caused instant astonishment due to its dynamics and the pleasurable ride offered. So much so, that it seems quite natural to summarize the design talent and technical intuitions instilled in the new maxi-enduro by Moto Guzzi, with the images and sensations of a place, where the riding pleasure is enriched by the feeling of adventure, sport challenge, and extreme tourism: the Stelvio Pass.
Moreover, the new Moto Guzzi Stelvio 1200 4V has been designed and developed to brave any destination, devouring miles of roads and even off-road surfaces. This multipurpose capability is evident at first glance .Inspired by off-road bikes, Stelvio 1200 4V breaks the traditional, austere look of models in this market segment by introducing new intense shapes and a dynamic energy that evokes the feeling of adventure, long routes, the most extreme use. Slender and streamlined in the lower part, highlighted by refined aluminum spoke wheels and the technology seen in the powertrain and final transmission, the Moto Guzzi Stelvio 1200 4V is compact and robust in the upper part, revealing the care taken to obtain the best ergonomics for the rider.
They are sculptured shapes that stress the numerous design details to respond to an active and intense use, such as the presence of a powerful double front headlight assembly, the windshield and the adjustable seat, the ample section of chassis guides, the aluminum exhaust silencer, the careful assessment for passenger and luggage transport.
This design concept has been designed to stress the throbbing heart of Stelvio 1200 4V, the unmistakable 90° transversal V-twin engine in its most functional “quattrovalvole” (four valves) version. Strong, powerful, dominant in its action, Stelvio 1200 4V is now streaking along U.S. roads in two different color concepts: Corsa Red for the classic sportsman and Guzzi Black for those who prefer tradition.
There are many sports in the world, way too many to mention in this tiny little block. Just rest assured, someone is playing something somewhere, and winning.
The sun rose this morning, and is predicted to set again later this evening. Meteorologists are predicting steady daylight throughout this cycle of sun, ending upon sunset.
